East yard

Jan Hatch in Norman, OK

This is an area on the east side of the house that is approximately 30 feet long and 12 feet wide. It has a raised area surounded by rock and currently has small river pebbles in a large part of it. Drainage is lengthwise and to the south. There is a climbnig rose against the house and two white dwarf crepe myrtles about mideway in the length of the bed along the border. There is also a part of the bed which curves around to the front of the house. The front border of the bed has 20" flashing buried and topped with landscaping border decorated with upright rocks. This area is about 25' wide and 12' deep. It contains a 60 year dark purple crepe myrtile which is trimmed into a tree. I am in the midst of redoing this bed and would appreciate ideas. I plan to remove and reuse the pebbles to create walkways or a small patio type of area. I wouldl like to use perennials with areas of color for annuals. I prefer low maintenance. Oklahoma gets very hot and dry in the summer.
