Good choice.  I have always liked the cedar chips quite a bit.  They are very pleasing to the eye and help make your yard clean cut and well manicured!  Enjoy!

I'm eagerly awaiting some new growth off of a few flowerbeds from last year.  I do have plans for an "island" flowerbed in the middle of my yard around a bird bath.  I am still looking for the right one, but plan on planting next weekend.  It looks like we're beginning to have consistent good weather!

Cedar or hemlock bark mulches are good and will need to be replaced every year.  You can get some pine needle mulches, which also need to be replaced, but are not "wood chip".  You could also buy some inorganic mulch, rocks, pebbles, etc... and those will not have to be replaced often at all (should be a one time use!).

Becky - I absolutely agree.  Start from the 3 prong.  You will have a good growth spurt this year, if the garden is taken care of properly, but once you cut the flowers back and begin next year, you will have a great rose garden.  Keep us up to date!

That is what I have discovered.  It is a little disconcerting to hear them, but as long as I don't see the rats I am a little better off.  The kids and I have begun taking turns gathering any fallen fruit every morning, so there should never be a day mixed.  I do have several palm trees in the front and back yards so I don't think I could eliminate them if that is where they are nesting.

    Thanks for your help!
