Front yard project

Diane Cloughessy in Oak Harbor, WA

We started out with a grassy, mossy area and a lot of individual spots where the grass was not growing. The only way to get to our frontdoor was by walking up the driveway. We live in a Cul de sac and most people park directly in front of the house so we needed a walkway from that area. My husband and I layed all the stone work with help from family. It is still a work in progress but we are finally at the vision I imagined so many years ago. Now we are waiting on our planting to mature.

Before & After Curb Appeal Front Yard Hardscape Small (Under 1,000 sq ft.)

1 of 4: We just recently had our roof redone and our house painted. In 2008 we did the stone walkway leading up to the house.

2 of 4: It amazing what a little mulch and spring plantings can do to spruce up the yard. We have a front border of viola's and assorted geraniums in the middle. My hosta's are starting to peak out too.

3 of 4: This is looking down from the porch and we picked quite a few different plantings for this area. We wanted to see what grows. My heather is in full bloom and just beautiful. We are transferring small sections to the right side of the walkway and hopefully in a few years it will look like it too has been there forever.

4 of 4: Our side yard was a pea gravel that flew everywhere in our high winds we get here. So we stonescaped this area also.

Comments / Questions

I love the stone patio you created. Looks very natural. Nice tie in with that huge boulder off of the deck. Thanks for sharing!
