We turned a wooded lot in a wonderful pool area. We built a poolhouse and outdoor cook area. We still have a lot of trees to enjoy and feel like we're on vacation in our own backyard.

My backyard in Memphis used to be a shaded oasis with a 100 year old oak tree that was 75 ft. tall. A few years ago, straight line winds (referred to locally as Hurricane Elvis)knocked down my beautiful tree and thousands more turning my shaded oasis into a hot spot. What to do? Add a pool and tropical landscaping.

I built this bar and bbq myself in the summer of 2006. The foundation is concrete block, with El Dorado stone for the facing. 4-burner stainless steel grill and a mini refrigerator. Countertops are ceramic tile on cement backerboard. The bar area is 4 inches higher than the grill area in order to have a distinct bar/serving area.
The bbq/bar area took 3 months to plan and 1 month to build. It's been a great addition to our backyard.

Our back yard is split into two halves...the patio half and the grass/flower bed half. I did the patio half 3 years ago, but the other half has not got the attention it deserves until now. So this past week, we hired ArborTeck Tree Care & Landscaping of Hayward, CA. They removed a tree to open the yard up a bit, not to mention clean up all of the roots that had come to the surface. This allowed us to replace the sod and create a new raised planter on the side. They dressed up all of the flower beds with weed mat and mulch, plus replaced all our sprinklers and put in a drip system

I have been gardening for about 3 years. I love the results of all the flowers and plants. My mom gave me most of my plants, she has a beautiful garden. I love old things, most of the my things belonged to my dad and mom. Thanks for dropping by my place, come back and visit anytime.......smiles
